Chambers, Raymond John
born 1917 An Australian accounting academic and author. Former foundation Professor of Accounting at the University of Sydney, and visiting professor to a number of universities around the world, R. J. Chambers’ achievements include the establishment of the Academic journal * Abacus in 1965 and the founding of the *Pacioli Society in 1968. His written output is vast: Accounting, Evaluation and Economic Behavior (1966) is perhaps his most famous work, in which he introduced his controversial theory of continuously contemporary accounting. He has also authored a monumental Accounting Thesaurus (1995). An *Accounting Hall of Fame member, Chambers has been a long-standing advocate of the application of scientific rigor to accounting analysis. Further reading: Chambers, R. J. (1966); Chambers, R. J.
