short-termism

short-termism
An attitude that places *short-term over long-term gains. The management of a corporation may be tempted to enhance *short-term *earnings to impress investors (and to boost the managers’ *remuneration), yet their decisions could cause *long-term damage to the corporation’s financial health. For example, reductions in *research and development expenses may boost *net income in the short term, but the reductions may lead to falling revenues in the long term as a result of *obsolete or outdated products.
