South Africa’s main professional accounting and external auditing organization. The SAICA was established in 1980 from pre-existing accounting bodies, and it is headquartered in Johannesburg. It publishes the monthly magazine *Accountancy SA, which is available in print and online formats. Following British traditions, the organization uses the designatory term *chartered accountant. The SAICA sets both *accounting standards and *auditing standards in South Africa, and its membership in 2003 was approximately 21,000. Web site: www.saica.co.za
