Enterprise risk management (ERM) is essentially the holistic and integrated application of *risk management principles, and it has been described as "a systematic and disciplined approach to managing risk throughout an organization" (Funston, 2003, 60). At the time of this writing, in 2003, an ongoing project of the * Committee of Sponsoring Organizations of the Treadway Commission is the development of an *enterprise risk management framework.
