An international accounting group. Established following the devastating effects of the financial crises in Southeast Asia and the Pacific Rim in the late 1990s, the IFAD is a forum for a range of organizations that include the *Big Four accounting firms, the *International Federation of Accountants, the international Organization of Securities Commissions, the *Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, and the *World Bank. It first met in 1999. Among the IFAD’s objectives listed on its Web site are the promotion of "understanding by national governments of the value of transparent financial reporting, in accordance with sound corporate governance" and assistance to "harness funds and expertise to build accounting and auditing capacity in developing countries." Global *harmonization of financial reporting practices are of major interest to the IFAD, and its Web site gives country by country surveys of *Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
