application control
A control over an aspect of a computer program. Application controls may be either programmed or manual, and they are designed to ensure the accuracy and completeness of data and transactions. Examples of application controls include the validation of data input and the verification of batch totals. Auditors test the correct functioning of application controls through the use of representative *test data.
