normal spoilage

normal spoilage
Unavoidable waste, *scrap, and defective goods arising from manufacturing processes. Unlike *abnormal spoilage, normal *spoilage is considered to be inherent in a *production process. It is generally viewed as uncontrollable in the short run, as it is driven by technological aspects of production that can be altered only in the long term. The costs of normal spoilage are therefore treated as acceptable production costs, rather than as items to be expensed as incurred.
